How should I proceed?
There is no "universally applicable approach" when implementing a risk assessment. The scope and methodology of the risk assessment are always geared to the concrete operational circumstances. It is important that you proceed in a structured fashion.
The following steps have proven useful. They will guide you like a thread throughout the risk assessment:
- Preparation of the risk assessment
- Identificaiton of the hazards
- Assessment of the hazards
- Establishment of concrete occupational safety and health measures
- Implementation of the measures
- Review of the performance and effectiveness of the measures
- Updating of the risk assessment
When you perform and document the steps recommended, you will run through the process of the risk assessment as provided for by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and other statutory regulations.
And above all – you will have secured the health of your workers with respect to their working environment!
